Vertebrae in the Sculpture Garden

Working Model for Three Piece No. 3: Vertebrae was given to the Gallery by friends of Joseph C. Wilson in his memory in 1971. Wilson, a great admirer of Moore’s work, was the founder of Xerox and a member of the boards of the University of Rochester and the Memorial Art Gallery. When the sculpture first came to MAG it was installed in an outdoor courtyard sculpture garden that no longer exists.  It was moved to its current location as a focal point of the newly-opened Vanden Brul Pavilion in 1987.
