People used to wonder where I’m from. I would ask, “What year?”. Refugee from Hungary at age eight, Dayton, Ohio, five years, University City, Missouri, two years, New Brunswick, New Jersey for high school, six years of education in Boston and five years of medical residency in Chicago before arriving in Rochester.
Two years later, with one son and another contemplated, it was time to settle down. Nancy and I had several outside opportunities. Thirty-one years ago we decided to choose the middle America values of Rochester: friends who become family and a community which supports the opportunity to excel. Somewhere, large enough that not everybody knows your business, yet where you can make an impact. A place where a doctor can get his picture on the front page of the paper without doing anything bad. For me, that happened twice. I am from all those places, but now I answer, "Rochester".
