Poets Walk: "missed lay-up"
Location on Poets Walk Map: 89
Missed by Donna M. Marbach
The moon, a missed lay-up,
caught in branches of our apple tree,
coaches the last small shadows
from your fallen playhouse.
Against the shed, an empty bike leans,
one tire flat, handlebars askew,
and dreams of bent poker cards
clipped to flutter in its shiny spokes.
New spring grass now a softer gray
than concrete walks or black macadam
bends a little in the evening breeze
Do I almost hear your laughter?
Olly olly oxen free.
