Description: Belt Clasp with Horse and Goat

Cast from a carved mold, this large belt clasp is characteristic of the region known as Transcaucasia (TRANS-kaw-KAY-zee-ah), between the Caspian and Black Seas. This clasp and the animals on it reflected social status, wealth, and everyday animal life for the nomadic people that roamed the modern Republic of Georgia 1,800 years ago.
