Blanca Will

Blanca Will (1881–1978) was born in Rochester and studied drawing at the Mechanics Institute from the age of fourteen, continuing to study art at Smith College, and after college in Germany and New York.  After the death of her father, she returned to Rochester and taught classes at the Memorial Art Gallery from 1927–1938.

At the Gallery Will created the Sunday Art Fellowship group to encourage especially talented students.   She won the University of Rochester’s Lillian Fairchild Award for her sculpture in 1930, and is remembered as an inspiring teacher.
